Coffee History
No one knows exactly when the coffee plant was really discovered, but it is easy to imagine that healers from Africa used raw or cooked cherries early. Prevailing opinion is that the coffee plant and its effect has been discovered by the distinctive behavior of animals that have eaten coffee cherries.
There are circulating some legends about the discovery. A legend says that herders have complained from the province of Kaffa in Abyssinian highlands in Ethiopia with the monks on the spot that their animals did not show any fatigue and would find no rest. At the point where the animals grazed, the monks found a dark green plant, wearing the green, yellow and red cherry-like fruit of which have nibbled the animals. These monks were preparing an infusion and were without the slightest need for sleep awake at night and cause excited conversations. Another story is about the great prophet Mohammed. Oriental storytellers report that the dying prophet the Archangel Gabriel appeared with a bowl of steaming, dark liquid. After enjoying the beverage Mohammed was suddenly well again, won his spirits again and could merge with this heavenly strengthening a vast Islamic empire, as the world had hitherto not seen. Another legend revolves around a young dervish named Omar. he was slandered and unjustly condemned exiled with his companions in a secluded stone desert. Half starved and at the end of his strength, he tried the fruits of an unfamiliar bush. As recovered by a miracle he returned to the city and brought news of the magical fruit. Everyone wanted now free of this fruit and Omar was loaded with honors and the Caliph gave him even a palace.
